Pinterest Tutorial

Pinterest is a fantastic tool to organize all of your virtual inspiration boards.  Think of it as a place to store your online inspiration pics and as an endless resource of others’ inspiration boards!  This is way, way better than google images people.  If you ever want some yummy inspiration for a blog post, I highly recommend getting a Pinterest account.  I’m fairly new to Pinterest and still figuring it all out, but I thought I’d pass along what I know so that you can join in the fun.  Click play on my very short video (I promise it’s short this time) to learn what it’s all about and how to use it.  Note: I’m not at all affiliated with Pinterest, and I’m not promoting them for any other reason than they rock. Just thought you should know :) .  Also, I’m sick, so bear with the gravely voice.  AND I forgot to turn off my tweetdeck so try not to be distracted by all of the tweets popping up on the screen!  Such an amateur, I know!

I’d love it if you’d follow me on Pinterest!

  1. Beth, this is awesome! I had heard about it, but had not even checked it out. Love it and thanks for sharing…hoping you feel so much better soon!

  2. Thanks, Beth! One problem, though – I've requested to sign up twice and have yet to hear back from Pinterest. Any suggestions? (This was several weeks ago!)

  3. Green Door Girl says:

thanks for the tutorial, this looks very cool – off to find this site! :)

  4. Thanks so much for the tutorial! I had seen some links to pinterest before, but I wasn't sure what the deal was. Also I have to say that you have a beautiful speaking voice, even though you have a cold! Hope you feel better soon!

  5. Hi Beth,

Thanks for the video. How do you make those by the way? I see you have a mac (me too).

I like how adding a pic will also add the source, as far as I can tell.

I'd love an invite if you are able to give it. Thanks!

  6. Beth@The Stories of A to Z says:

I will try and hook people up with an email invite to Pinterest. Just email me (thestoriesofa2z@gmail.com).

  7. - Brittany says:

    Beth,

Wow, I had not heard of Pinterest. Thanks for the intro. I'd be interested to hear your answer to Jessica's question above about the video (since I'm a Mac lover too!) Although, I hate my voice even when I'm not sick!

I just requested an invite from the site, they had a message that it might be a little bit before we received an invitation. Something about beta-testing blah, blah, blah.

Fabulous overview, Beth! :) I think I'm sold. I'm going to email you for an invite as well. :)

  9. Thank you SOOO much for doing this. I've looked at a few other sites and haven't felt that they really did what I was looking for in order to categorize my "stuff". This looks like it might be the winner! Yay!

  10. Beth, I've heard of all the "Pinterest" talk and thank you so much for showing me what it does…what a fabulous tool!!

  11. Beth @ UnskinnyBoppy says:

  13. This looks like an amazing tool! I am always getting inspiration from websites and blogs and just book marking pages, but then have a hard time remember which site had what!! This is going to be so much fun, thanks for telling us all about it :)

  14. Kim @ Everything Etsy says:

Thanks so much! I'm new to Pintrest and I haven't had time to learn too much about it. I think you just saved me a ton of time! :) Great job!

  16. Kathleen Frances says:

Oh you poor girl, you sound just awful. If we were next door neighbors I'd make you some homemade soup, ring your doorbell and leave on your door step. I know the last thing anyone wants to do when they're sick is entertain:) Hope you feel better soon!

And BTW you sold me on the pintrest. I'm going to start an account now.

  17. I love this! I'm going to use this for my ideas for my house! Thanks!

  23. I've been looking for a tool like this one for a long time. I'm to a point where I have a hard time keeping track of all the amazing inspiring things I find in blogworld. Thanks for the oh-so-helpful tutorial! Now if I could only get an invite…

  24. Beth@The Stories of A2Z says:

If you've emailed me with an invite, I've emailed you one. Some still haven't received it and I'm not sure why. Check your spam file to see if it's there. Also, for those wondering what program I use to make these tutorials it's called Screenium.

  25. Hi Beth, thanks for the nicely made tutorial! So happy you're enjoying Pinterest.

Lots of people are creating pinboards for everything, from recipes, shopping lists, and home decorating projects, and wedding planning!

If your readers would like early access, they can use this special invite link: http://bit.ly/enidh

  26. I cannot figure out how to click and drag pin it to my tool bar! Any hints, or ideas. Thanks!

  27. Kathleen Frances says:

    Beth,
I can't thank you enough for turning me on to Pintrest! I could spend like….all day on it!

  28. So excited for that invite! I checked it out when you first posted it and was so sad I couldn't join up right away… I'm so glad I checked again and saw that update! It only took me about three seconds after reading that to get set up… I can't wait! Thanks for introducing me :)

  29. Geezees Custom Canvas Art says:

Great tutorial! I love this site so much! So much inspiration, i could spend hours on it!

  30. I love PinInterest and have used it as a way to visually micro blog — I did a chunk of ReVerb10 on PinInterest – made a board for the posts and collected them there. What's cool is you don't have to write just a sentence – you can write more. Love PinInterest.

  31. Sherri @ Design2Shine says:

Beth, I just wanted to let you know that I started pin'ing and LOVE IT! Easier than anything else I have seen. Thanks SO much for your tutorial!

  32. Beth – Great video tutorial, funny thing is that over the weekend I wrote up a post for this and scheduled it for later in the week, then saw your post and added a link to yours for the video!

  33. Jenna @ SAS Interiors - Simple. Affordable. Stylish. says:

    Beth~
Just sending an update! I hopped on to pinterest tonight (O, the fun things I do on Saturday night, lol) and it's awesome. I just followed your step by step tutorial and it was VERY THOROUGH! Thanks again!!

  34. OMG!! That you sooo much for the invite!! I'm addicted now! :P

  35. Beth, Thanks for the tutorial. I haven't been able to figure out if we are able to use pictures from pinterest on our own blogs. If we can then I of course would give credit to the original pinner. Is this a lame question? I am a fairly new blogger and I don't totally know what I'm doing ;)

  36. northwesthospitality says:

thanks! i'll check it out….and get hooked i'm sure.
    Sarah@ NorthwestHospitality.org

  37. Thank you! Yeah, I'm on it now! Thank you for this great post. I wasn't quite grasping it until I watched your video. You have been a big help.

  38. Pretty Pauline says:

I am a new Pinterest user, and I need HELP! I do not have a bookmark bar. I did drag the Pin It thing up next to the Amazon button between my star and wrench, and it said it was installed, but I can't find it! Any advice? *THANKING YOU!*

  39. Beth@The Stories of A2Z says:

Pauline, you should have a bookmark bar. Up at the top look under your menus. Try the "View" and see if there is a way to show your bookmark bar. What browser are you using?

  40. I love this tutorial!!! would it be ok if I used your tutorial on my personal blog, and of course link people up to you? I love your blog, I found it through all things thrifty!!

  41. Margaret says:

That was fabulous..my daughter in Oz sent it to me to try and help me..er I just don`t know what a browser is???:):):) TRULY! Debs sent me an invite to Pinterest but I now don`t know where my password etc. went BUT I have SO LOVED looking at all the gorgeous stuff on Pinterest. I was re-pinning from those boards but everything went under Books to read or something so…Anyhow I`m sure I`ll eventually figure it all out. Very exciting. I`m close on 60 and NOT computer literate besides e-mailing and FB etc.

  42. Thanks for the tutorial! I watched it and joined… thanks for the new addiction!

  43. Hi Beth!
    LOVE this tutorial!
    Thanks for sharing.
I’m wanting to add the Pin It link to my Bookmarks.
When ever I copy the link and add it to my bookmarks it copies the “help” page on Pinterest.
    Does this make sense?
Would you happen to know what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks a bundle!
    LOVE your site!

  44. Pam Baird says:

I pinned a couple of pics that I took myself, and nobody has responded at all. I was wondering if it’s because there is no link attached (?). Of course it could be that they are not interesting to anyone other than me! ;)
    I was just wondering..

  45. Thank you so much – I’ve been waiting for an invite for months. Just one click and I am up and pinning…

  46. Your tutorial is great. Just one question, though ~ I set up an account but did not Follow anyone. All of a sudden I have these boards I’m supposedly “following” and I can’t get rid of them! I’ve tried to “unfollow” but maybe I’m doing it wrong? Haven’t found any real help on the site itself. Aaaaaaaaargh!

    Thanks!

    kathleen

  47. I want to do this, but I’m having a hard time! I got one picture pinned, but then I went to do another, and I can’t get it to work. I chose yellow and gray, just like you did in the tutorial, because coincidentally, I am redecorating my bedroom in those colors. I got one picture pinned, but I just don’t know where I’m going wrong.

Any help would be great — or an online source for help. I didn’t find Pinterest’s Help section very helpful… .

    Thanks,
    Staci

  48. Sheri Nichols says:

Is the invitation no longer valid? I can’t get the link for the invitation to work.

  49. I just stumbled on your blog-LOVE IT!! I can’t get the link to work for the Pinterest invite, though. I’d love to try it.

  50. Immeasurably More Mama says:

Hi Beth! Thanks for this great tutorial. I have joined pinterest and want to know how to unfollow the users pinterest suggested when I signed up? I know how to unfollow their boards but how do I remove them from my following list? Thanks!

  51. I’ve been looking so many places for thsi information.

  52. Totally love your blog and this post. I, too, am a Pinaholic! It really is addicting.

But when we can turn an addiction into more views for our blog, or more sales for our Etsy shop, then we’ve hit the jackpot! I pinned an item from my Etsy shop one day and one week later it has over 300 views and I’ve sold 2 with a question about making custom pieces too.

Pinterest is not only fun, it’s a fabulous marketing tool!

    thank you for your post!

  53. Hi Beth, can you tell me how to attach my name or somehow get credit for my own personal photos that I have pinned to my account? I’ve uploaded several, but where someone usually has their name or website/blog – it says none. Thanks for any help that you can throw my way.

    Sue

  54. Amazing write-up and tutorial. So thank you for that. Also this infographic about Pinterest just came through on my twitter feed and thought it might be something you and your readers would enjoy. It talks about how local businesses can use Pinterest to market their products.

  55. Terri Kagawa says:

Hi Beth! The link for the instant Pinterest invite does not work.
Is it possible to get an invite??? Thanks so much!!!

  56. THANK YOU!!! I know I need to learn about Pinterest and this was super helpful. Little Bit from DecorateWithaLittleBit.com

  57. Susan DeWeese says:

I enjoyed your tutorial on Pinterest. I asked for an invitation from Pinterest several weeks ago, and haven’t heard from them. Your Pinterest person you have a link to above your tutorial doesn’t work anymore. Any suggestions?

  58. Thank you so much for the help! I cannot get the link to work to get an invite, has it expired?

  59. Lisa Thompson says:

Loved the tutorial….but the link is no longer working. Anyone else wait listed? If someone would like to extend an invite my email is lisamt75@aol.com

    Thank you

  60. What a great tute, Beth! I already use Pinterest occasionally, but I’m looking forward to using it more intentionally to grow my blog even more this year! : )

P.S. Been following for a while now but first-time commenter. Nice to “meet” you! : )

P.S. I would absolutely love for you to drop by my neck of the woods if you get a moment!

    Abbie (www.fivedaysfiveways.com)

  61. What an awesome tutorial. I was just accepted on Pinterest and didn’t have the slightest idea of how to set it up. Thank you so much for the information. Ready to join in the fun!

  62. 404 not found on that link there.

  63. Debbie O'Brien says:

Hi Beth, I am already a pintrest user but have a question I hope you can help me with. I have more than 10 boards. When I click on repin it only shows ten of my boards so sometimes the board I want to pin to is not shown. How do I pull up my other boards to pin to the one I’m looking for.
My set up looks different than yours even though I have a Mac as well.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

  64. Hi Beth,

Thanks so much for the wonderful video on Pinterest. It is so wonderful of you to take your time and give us all some guidance…I am slowly creating my boards – and I wrote to Pinterest about this but didn’t get a response, could you please tell me how to upload personal photos from my computer? I click add, and upload, but it just spins and spins and won’t allow me to upload – do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much!

  65. I have been trying to get on Pinterest for 3 months, please do you have an extra invite?

  66. Hi Beth,

That’s a nice overview for piterest. I would love to join it as well. Please add me.

    Thanks,

  67. Is there any procedure to submit tag or keyword like StumbleUpon in Pinterest ?

  68. Hi Beth,
What a beautiful site you have. I have enjoyed looking at what you have created. The tutorial for Pinterest was very good. I would love an invite.
    Thank you,
    Kate

  69. Thank you for this tutorial. I learned much more from you than I did from the help section of Pinterest!
